Enrolment

Enrolment Procedure

Parents may add their child’s name to the Waiting List for extra care days or new enrolment at any time by approaching the Centre Director, phone 03.6247 6589 or email oakdownselc@outlook.com.

It is preferable to place your child’s name on our waiting list as early as possible to ensure we have a placement for them.  If you wish, you may complete a form when pregnant with estimated dates of return to work.

Upon enrolment your child’s birth certificate and immunisation records will need to be sighted.  Any child who is not immunised will be excluded from care upon the outbreak of any vaccine preventable disease.

Priority of enrolment is given according to available space in the Centre and the guidelines set down by the Australian Government ie. a child at risk of serious abuse or neglect; a child of a single parent who satisfies, or of parents who both satisfy, the work test under section 14 of the Family Assistance Act; or any other child.

Introducing Your Child To The Centre

We like to meet with each family before your child starts at our Centre to discuss your child’s individual needs. Spending time at the centre also allows you and your child to meet our team and become familiar with the environment.

We strongly recommend families spend at least one or two mornings at the Centre prior to starting care to ease their child’s transition from home to Centre.  Some children may need to start initially with shorter days and extend up to a full day.

Children’s Requirements

We aim to make your day as stress free as possible.  Unless your child has special requirements there is no need to pack food, drinks, wipes, or sunscreen.  We supply them to make packing your child’s kindy bag easier.

We supply the following items:
  • Nutritious meals, including drinks, prepared fresh on site
  • Nappies and wipes for Twinkles and Moonbeams rooms
  • Sunscreen

What to wear

Loose fitting clothing that protects as much of your child’s skin as possible during outdoor play.  Shirts that cover the shoulders, with collars and sleeves that are at least elbow length.

Ensure that clothing is comfortable and easy for your child to manipulate for toileting purposes. Please name all belongings. We discourage children from bringing superhero outfits as these can get damaged or lost and may lead to aggressive play.

Please bring the items below for your child, clearly labelled with their name:
  • A broad brimmed hat.  Broad brimmed hats should have a brim of at least 7.5cm.
  • Legionnaire’s hats are also suitable.  Hats for children should not fall off easily and should offer protection to face, ears and neck and be acceptable to the child.
NB.  Baseball caps are not recommended for sun protection.
  • 2 spare sets of clothing and underwear, to cater for change of climate.
  • Warm headwear, footwear, and clothing for winter days.
  • Sheet or warm blanket.
  • Drink bottle – water only.
  • Piece of fruit to share with friends.
  • Nappies if required (Comets and Starbrights rooms only).
  • A kindy bag.
Parents are encouraged to apply SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen to children before coming to the Centre for the day or to apply sunscreen to children upon arrival.  Sunscreen will be reapplied by Centre staff during the day as required.  Should your child require a specific sunscreen brand, please ensure that this is supplied to centre staff in a labelled container.

Additional items for Babies and Under Threes:

  • 5 spare trainer pants for those children who are toilet training
  • Comfort items such as dummies, soft toys, blankets, etc.
  • Bottles and formula (pre prepared please)
  • 3 spare sets of clothing
NB. For safety reasons, NO plastic bags, plastic wrap, or items smaller than a film canister are to be brought to the Centre by children in the Under 3s rooms.

Meals

We believe that good nutrition is a way of life.  Children’s diets should contain a balance of all the food groups.  Menus have been developed to include a variety of foods with an emphasis on fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain breads, meat, poultry, and dairy products.  Water is provided with each meal as well as periodically throughout the day.

We provide morning tea, lunch, dessert and afternoon tea each day.  If your child has special nutritional requirements, all attempts will be made to accommodate them.  If however, we are unable to meet your needs, you will be required to supply all meals in a lunch box.

We have adopted policies and procedures with a view to ensuring that we are a nut free zone.  Whilst we are unable to guarantee this, all reasonable and possible steps are taken to seek to comply with this mandate.  All parents are asked to avoid sending any foods in your child’s bag that could be eaten accidentally.

Parents of children with nut allergies are encouraged to seek further information about the policies and procedures in place at this centre in seeking to determine the suitability of their child for enrolment.  If your child has food allergies, then please notify our Centre Director of their specific requirements.

What Our Clients Are Saying

“I have had the privilege of being a part of OELC for about 7 years. During this time our children have been genuinely cared for educated and loved.  As parents we have never had any hesitation of leaving our children at care and know that they have all benefited from the experience, academically and emotionally."  Read More
